Your Guides This Season

Posted on: Sunday, December 10th, 2017

Guides are an important component of the heli-ski experience at Silvertip Lodge. Their principal role is to keep everyone safe. Silvertip Lodge only hires guides certified by the IFMGA (International Federation of Mountain Guides Associations) and/or the ACMG (Association of Canadian Mountain Guides). All guides also hold a certification from the CAA (Canadian Avalanche Association) as a Level 2 Avalanche Forecaster and a current Advanced First Aid.

Dale McKnight | Operations Manager and Guide

Dale McKnight grew up in the Rockies; in Lake Louise first and then in Golden, BC where he still resides. Dale has been working in the ski industry since he was a teenager. Both his parents were leaders in the community of Golden and were key in developing the ski area known today as Kicking Horse Resort. He went to work as a heli logger at an early age and later started his own snowcat skiing operation. Dale is an ACMG apprentice ski guide, a member of the Canadian Avalanche Association and has an incredible amount of experience making any on-hill operations run smoothly and safely. Dale has been with Silvertip Lodge since it reopened in 2016.

Brad White | Guide

Brad White is a Banff, Canada born IFMGA Mountain Guide who has been heli-ski guiding since 1983. He has ski guided in most of the major ranges in British Columbia as well as around the world in the mountains of Alaska, Argentina, Russia, Europe, and Japan. Brad has recently retired from a twenty-five-year career as a Mountain Rescue and Avalanche Specialist with Parks Canada. As a professional member of the Canadian Avalanche Association and a ski guide examiner for the Association of Canadian Mountain Guides, he works on curriculum development and delivery of courses teaching the latest best practices for mountain safety and avalanche forecasting. Brad is also an accomplished photographer who has spent his career documenting the fabulous mountain landscapes and the adventurers who have accompanied his travels.

Steve Kloepzig | Guide

Steve is a certified ACMG Ski Guide and has been working in the ski industry for more than 19 years.
Steve was born in Deep Cove, North Vancouver and is a long time ski guide at Island Lake Cat Skiing.
When Steve is not guiding, he’s enjoying the mountains on a bicycle or behind a camera and can be found at home, in Fernie, with his family. This winter will be Steve’s second season heli-ski guiding at Silvertip. Steve’s passion for the sport and the mountains is contagious and you should be so fortunate as to have him at the lead of your group while skiing the beautiful Cariboo Mountains.
